Spencer Fraser, CEO, Project Resolve
From the pioneers of the AOR class…
In 1967, Davie, which is Canada’s largest shipbuilder, built HMCS Provider, the first of Canada’s Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment fleet. The fleet would go on to serve Canada proudly for the next 47 years and see service throughout the globe, performing a range of missions from supporting the Royal Canadian Navy during hostilities to offering humanitarian and disaster relief in times of peace.
…An innovative, affordable and Canadian solution
In February 2014 a devastating fire destroyed the HMCS Protecteur and it was clear to the Project Resolve partners that an interim solution was necessary in order to keep the Royal Canadian Navy fully operational until a permanent solution could be delivered.
With that, in March 2014, Davie and its partners Aecon, NavTech and V.Ships set out to find an interim solution which would provide a fast-track, affordable, compliant and fully managed service. After over one year of design, engineering and planning, after a lengthy consultation with industry, an agreement was reached in August 2015 with the Government of Canada to provide At-Sea Support Services to the Royal Canadian Navy.
